About Us - Board of Directors

Gary Colley - Board Member

Gary ColleyGary has worked as an attorney since 1975 on the Olympic Peninsula and was one of the founders of the Land Trust in 1990. The majority of his law practice involves real estate and estate planning.

He has a great love of the outdoors and spends much of his spare time backpacking in the mountains or fishing the Olympic Peninsula rivers.

He is responsible for much of the conservation easement drafting for the Land Trust and chairs the Standards & Practices Committee to ensure the Land Trust maintains high standards in stewarding the lands we protect.

In 2009, KIRO 7 announced that attorney Gary Colley had been selected as the 2009 Cox Conserves Hero for Western Washington. Colley was nominated for the program, selected as a finalist by local environmental leaders, and ultimately named as the Hero after receiving the most votes in an online public poll. As Colley’s environmental, nonprofit organization of choice, the North Olympic Land Trust received $5,000.

Permanent protection of a 38-acre farm is Colley’s most recent environmental contribution. His donated legal work has been a key element in protecting more than 2,000 acres of land since he and other local citizens established North Olympic Land Trust in 1990. The land in Clallam County protects salmon and other wildlife habitat, sustainable commercial timberland, clean water and air, scenic vistas, open space and cultural heritage areas in addition to farmland. “I’m committed to this area because I live here. After 30 years, it’s still nice to drive through the area and see the picturesque open spaces,” said Colley. “I find it very gratifying to help preserve something not only for the people living on the land now, but also for future generations.”
